Four different chapters explain what
hoaxes are, historical hoaxes, hoaxes in relation to social media and how to
spot a hoax or lie. Each page spread has
between 1-2 paragraphs of information and explains how hoaxes and lies are
perpetuated and believed. The
illustrations are fun and make the stories about hoaxes more interesting.
I enjoyed this quick read and think it would
be great to use in the classroom. After
each of the chapters there is a mini quiz to see if the reader can spot if an
article is true or a hoax. At the end of
the book there are some good tips on how young readers can detect a lie in news
stories or on the internet. This is a
good simple resource for English teachers, but it’s also a book that young
readers will find interesting.
