BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Liesel's grandma Rose has a magical wishing Ladle that can transport Liesel and her brother into an adventure. As she runs into each problem, a pirate, a dragon etc. they call her a wee girl - "There's nothing Wee about me!" she counters, easily defeating them - because she is so brave and bold. But, when the ladle stops producing things that are helpful, Leisel has to find a clever use for what she does have, because this wee girl can handle anything.
A soup ladle can be a lot of things, it's the perfect beginning to an adventure. I loved the premise, I loved Liesel - I loved that she doesn't have to actually fight, her courage alone sends the bad guys running. A super fun read for an adventurous child, share the book, then give them a ladle to start an adventure of their own. Laura Bobbiesi's illustrations are whimsical and fun, right out of a child's playtime. Loved it!
