AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
3rd grader Vera Vance really loves comics - she's so excited to be in the after school comics group with her friend Nixie - they became friends in the first book - Nixie Nash Cooking Star. However, Vera's mom is all about academics and doesn't see comics as a worthwhile activity. Vera would really like to attend the class end field trip to Comic-con, but Mom has already said no. But Vera is learning a lot and class is really fun. Maybe this is her chance to make another friend or two.
A great read for 3rd-5th graders, and a cute series (After School Superstars). Although Vera is in 3rd grade, the content is interesting and fun for even the older readers, plus there's some great tips for making your own comics.
