Swim, Swim, Sink by Jenn Harney. PICTURE BOOK Disney Hyperion,

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) – OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Three ducklings are born and quickly learn
the ways of their mother. Two of the
ducks take to swimming, but the third duckling keeps sinking. After trying many different ways to be able
to swim, the duckling grabs his shell, dresses like a pirate and uses his shell
as a boat to follow his mom.
The
illustrations in this book are bright and appealing with cute duckling facial
expressions. I was interested to see how
the duckling would solve his swimming problem, but the addition of the pirate outfit
seemed random. Overall, it is a good message about persistence and creativity but nothing over the top new or spectacular.
