BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL:  AVERAGE

Idriss has a shiny marble. When he and his mother must flee their war-torn home and country, Idriss clutches his lucky marble. He wonders if it will bring him luck in his new country, in his new home. He hopes the marble will help him find new friends.

I was given deeper understanding of the plight of refugees, their sacrifice, their perilous journeys, their suffering and their hope in a better life for themselves and their families. The illustrations are vivid and colorful. Idriss' face shows his emotions and in each picture he holds up his marble with a little smile. I love Idriss' optimism and belief that all will turn out well, because of his lucky marble.
