About 2000 year ago, China was split into kingdoms ruled by warlords. The two strongest were the Chu Kingdom and the Xiang Kingdom. The two kingdoms battled for years - even a cease fire was honored by all the parties, so fighting continued. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers battled for control of the China, when the the Han ambushed the Chu, it was the begging of the end. One trick after another ensued - who will win this terrible war?
Hongchen Yu has beautifully illustrated this historical event, but the telling was difficult to follow. Even with a couple of re-reads, I couldn't tell who was who - I know who won, because they are the last ones standing. I think even upper elementary would struggle understanding this story.
