Following a poetic pattern, this book moves through the seasons, describing what is happening through the colors. “Blue the coral. Blue the shell. Blue and white the foaming swell.” Each page includes the same syntax pattern and gentle rhyming.
Felicita Sala has an aesthetic that is simultaneously active and soothing and her illustrations are a perfect pairing with the text. Because this follows such a creative syntax pattern, this book could be used as a model for students’ own writing, particularly in poetry units.
