Little Koko Bear and His Socks by Qiusheng Zhang - OPTIONAL

Little Koko Bear and His Socks by Qiusheng Zhang, illustrated by Kaiyun Xu, PICTURE BOOK Reycraft Books, 2019. $11. 9781478868767

BUYING ADVISORY: Pre K, EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

Koko Bear loves socks. He has lots of different kinds - it's all he does, collect socks and try them on, he doesn't even like to wash them, but one day he realizes that all his socks are dirty and he needs to go to the river and wash them all. While waiting for them to dry, he falls asleep - as the animals from the forest come by, they think he is having a sock sale, so they leave things (like apples and cookies) and take a pair of socks. When Koko Bear wakes up and realizes most of his socks are gone, he notices the lovely things his new friends have left him. now he has a reason to wash his socks more often - less socks and more friends.

I liked that the illustrations were bigger than the page - Koko is usually spilling out of e picture. Qiusheng Zhang's story, while not a great life lesson - if someone is sleeping by their stuff, assume it's for sale and take it - the story was silly and has some songs in it, so the child may like to read along (or sing along) with Koko.
