When the bombs started falling on Aleppo, Syria, Alaa stayed behind to continue his work as an ambulance driver. The plight of the cats that were left behind as their owners fled tugged at his heart, so he started feeding them.  It didn’t take long for the crowd of cats to grow, so along with a friend and many donations from abroad, Alaa has a whole house cats and other animals, hoping that one day Aleppo will be back to the beautiful city it was before.

What a beautiful story of love and hope. Kids may not be drawn to the story on their own, but what a great way to introduce to them wonderful things that can happen in during a war (or a pandemic) and a way to help them understand the lives of people in other countries.
