Africa is a black girl that decides to enter a double-dutch competition even though she has no experience with jump roping. She wants to be like her grandmother who was excellent at double-dutch. Others tell her she can't do something she has never tried before. With perseverance, Africa keeps practicing and asks her friends for help.
"Fly" is a good picture book to teach perseverance and to be proud of your culture and who you are. The illustrations are bright and bold but the text seemed a little hard to read. This would be a good book to add diversity to your library.
