"Champ" follows Abtin Moleski, an outcast in his family. He was born into the Moleski family full of athletes and champions as a reader and artist. He tries to become like them by training and acting like them, hoping they'll recognize his efforts and be proud of him. We follow his family's disappointment in his inability to be champions like them, and his own struggles of feeling alone. Even through all of his hardships and troubles, he soon founds his own path.
This book is a little difficult for some kids in terms of the mistreatment that the family shows to Abtin. Even so, many kids can relate to Abtin by being the outcast of the family or being interested in things their family isn't. The resolve is uplifting and funny, which offsets some of the more difficult parts. The main character and his family are Iranian.
