What does a food chain look like in a forest? One is a grass-cricket-mouse-snake-hawk-fox-bear.
Neal's illustrations are gorgeous and will probably draw viewers on their own. The first part of the text is building narrative (This is the House that Jack Built), which feels weighty and a little confusing - if the snake ate the mouse, how can it then eat the cricket? I love that the last part of the book shows that sometimes the prey escapes the predator (except the grass).
