The girl is so sensitive that everything slightly sad makes her sad, and sometimes cry, too. She is so tired of all the sadness that she decides to build a suit like a rhino to hide in so that she can't see all of the sad things around her. But when she is closed off in her suit, she also can't see and feel all of the beautiful and the good things about the world.
At first, I thought Jackson's book was a little odd, but it has stuck with me - and I know that there are sensitive kids out there who it will speak to. I want to share this with my counselors so that they will have it for those who would be bolstered by the message. The girl is white.
