BUYING ADVISORY: EL - ADVISABLE
APPEALS TO: SOME
Kayla and Mateo live next door to each other. They find ways to get to know each other by using the clothesline to pass notes and drawings back and forth. As they share their favorite foods and cultures with each other, their imaginations grow. One day their clothesline disappears. They brainstorm a way to continue their fun. They meet in person and start involving the whole neighborhood.
I liked the message of the story, but it didn't engage my five year old daughter. The illustrations were cute. I don't see too many kids choosing to read this more than once.
Kayla and Mateo come from different cultures, but the book doesn't state which ones. Mateo eats pastelitos and Kayla eats piraguas.
