Mae Jemison's life was a mix of dance and science from the very start. Her dancer training kept her body strong and gave her grace and coordination. Though she became a medical doctor, she never gave up dance, which was a boon when NASA finally came calling with an offer to join the space program.
Ludikis has given us a fun look at Mae Jamison - concentration not only on her drive to be an astronaut, but incorporating her love of dance - a very uncommon look at science. I would enjoy reading this aloud, especially to show students that arts and science do not need to be mutually exclusive. Cloud's illustrations are on the simple side, yet expressive. Mae is the first Black woman in space.
