The Bee Mother is about the importance of the queen bee in her hive and her climate. We follow how bees pollinate flowers, their jobs throughout the seasons, and how they interact with other wasps and yellowjackets. Along with learning about bees themselves, we learn some vocabulary involving the natural world and other describing words like "burrowing", "pollinators", "solitary", and more.

The illustrations show us the changing of the seasons and life within Xsan culture. This book exemplifies to readers how just one animal can help power the biome it lives in, and our role in the environment as well. The illustrations are beautiful and show the changing of the seasons. The changing of the seasons also makes for great transitions between the storyline of bees and humans. This book could be great for kids interested in animals, science, etc. The story is centered around the author's culture, the Xsan tribe.
