BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
APPEALS TO: SEVERAL
Ali wants to put on a Broadway-style show on the beach so that everyone has a chance to see it. With her friends and her family helping, their production of Peter Pan is ready to go on the advertised day. But over the ocean, a storm is brewing - what will that do to their show?
I love that while Ali is in a wheelchair, it is part of who she is, but not at all the focus of her actions. In fact, it isn't mentioned at all. I love that Stroker's book is inclusive in an everyday way. What I really love is that Ali and her friends show grit, and resilience, as they cope with the rain's damage to their plans, without giving in to tantrums and sorrow. Ali is white; her friends are diverse.
