BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE, EL - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Water is the first medicine, it's in everything. The people talk of a black snake that will destroy the land and spoil the water. The indigenous people must stand together against the black snake and fight for the creatures who can't fight for themselves because we are all related. We are stewards of the Earth.
The Black Snake is an oil pipeline. While not specifically named in the book, it is certainly evident from the illustrations. Beautiful artwork by Michaela Goade accompany this wonderful story about banding together to make positive changes. Includes author and illustrator notes as well as a pledge to be an Earth steward and water protector.
