BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Everything on Humdrum is very humdrum. Except for Goat Girl, who is always trying to drum up some excitement. When she meets Merle the Bull (he may be a cow, he may be a boy, but he is NOT a cowboy, thank you very much), she tries to draw him into her play. It isn’t until the chickens need rescuing that Merle finds he can step up and be much more than humdrum.
I love Barrington’s illustrations! Kind of reminds me of Berkeley Breathed. Fromt eh name of the book, however, I was thrown off when the beginning was all about Goat Girl – this is really a Goat Girl book and we meet her new friend Merle, the Cow Boy.
