Jujube and Willow is about 2 trees planted by an old man. He planted the Jujube tree first, then planted the willow to be Jujube’s friend. Willow grew faster, and had green leaves earlier. Willow teased Jujube for growing slower and looking uglier. Then eventually, Jujube grew beautiful blossoms that turned into fruit that children loved. Willow felt bad for having teased Jujube, and worried about Jujube teasing him now that he did not bear any fruit. Jujube explained that he will not tease Willow, because although they are different, he is beautiful in his own way. He shows humans when Spring has come, and he also will grow to be very large and shady. Willow decided they could be friends after all.
Jujube and Willow was a wonderful, yet subtle way to teach children about how we are all individually special, even though we all are quite different from one another. We should not tease someone else for their flaws, because we are full of our own. And we should not despair when we think someone has something we do not, because what we do have is likely just as wonderful. This book is quite simple and a very easy read.
