12yo Monica is a star in her local community theater in California, but she auditions for and wins the chance of a lifetime to understudy one of the children in a Broadway production (still in rehearsals). Arriving at the "cursed" Ethel Merman Theater, she finds herself assuming the role as her predecessor has been injured. So, Mandy and her new friends - the other child cast members - set out to see if they can break the curse before opening night.
As an adult and former theatre teacher, I was alarmed at the lack of supervision allowing the dangerous situations the children got themselves into. I'm surprised the theater hadn't been shut down. Full of backstage antics and theater history - especially regarding superstitions, young thespians will enjoy this light read, but I will pass on the purchase.
