The duck is an introvert. He calls himself a “solo act” as he hangs out on the beach playing his ukulele by himself. One day, a band’s van breaks down, and they enlist Duck to help them fix it. He helps them, and makes friends with them along the way. They invite him to attend their concert and leave. After, he goes back to his solitary life, and talks himself out of going to their concert. Seagull gets sick, and so Bear comes and asks Duck to play in the band in Seagull’s absence. Full of self-doubt, Duck says no. Eventually, Duck is able to talk himself into going, and he goes and has a wonderful time.
Band Together is a cute look into the feelings of an introvert. It shows the emotional roller coaster one might go through in trying to open one’s self up to friendship. This book would be excellent for an introverted child needing extra encouragement into finding and maintaining friends.
