Thomas Jefferson is frustrated with Count Buffon in Paris because Jefferson is trying to get people to come to America and Count Buffon keeps disparaging the country’s nature. In an effort to change Count Buffon’s mind, Jefferson organizes discovery parties to find and excavate mammoth bones to send to Paris. They find large piles of bones and, with great effort, gather them for display around the world.
A new angle from which to view history always seems to lend itself to new understanding. This perspective of early America and the explorations that took place and the perceptions that were held, was very interesting. I realized all over again the sense of unknown and excitment that early pilgrams walked into.
