Julian sees some mermaids on the subway and is enchanted. He imagines himself as a mermaid so when he gets home (and while Abuela is busy in the bathtub) Julian make himself into a mermaid, complete with fern fronds for a headdress and the curtains for his tail. When Abuela sees, she helps him complete the look and takes him to the beach to see and join the mermaids.
This is a great story about being true to yourself and being accepted, however, I feel like I missed something . . . I'm not sure if the people on the beach are real mermaids or part of a show or a parade or what. I was hoping for an authors note or something.
