Who says you have to be a young girl who pretends to be either a princess or a pirate? Eleanor Wyatt does both. She wears high heels and kicks them off when necessary to run.

Told with rhyming text, this book is fun to read aloud. I am all for stories that show girls they can be anything they want to be, but I do think it was a bit formulaic here without the nuances involved in this conversation. What about our boys? And when, on one of the pages, Eleanor says she likes to be rescued by a prince from her tower, I couldn’t help but wonder if we do want to perpetuate this particular type of princess play.
