Henri’s Hats by Mike Wu. PICTURE BOOK. Disney Press (Disney Book Group), 2018. $17. 9781484709030
BUYING ADVISORY: El (K-3) - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
This book is part of a new collection of books that feature different Pixar animators. To this point, at the end of the story is a short story about the artist himself. The heart of this book though, is the story of young Parisian boy who is visiting his grandpa who is notoriously shy. The boy and the grandpa connect through a box of hats that represent all of the grandpa’s adventures.
I really like the focus of the artist in this book. I think it provides context for young readers, many of whom are interested in visual arts. And the artist did a brilliant job with this story. The story is both touching and inspiring and the illustrations are beautiful.
