Evan the Fox and his dog do everything together, including growing a magnificent garden. But when Evan's dog dies, Evan is devastated. He gives up on everything including the garden, letting it fill with weeds and thorns. But hope comes in the garden, under the fence on a pumpkin vine.
I love that this book addresses grief as part of the recovery. Evan is sad, angry and alone, but taking care of something helps Evan start to feel better. The illustrations are gorgeous, Evan's face is so expressive. A hopeful story about losing a friend.
