It is the first night of Hanukkah and 4-year-old Gertie really wants to help make the special latkes, but she's too little the peeler and grater are sharp, she can't use a knife and the oil is hot. Finally Mama sends her to her room to wait until supper is ready. But when Papa gets home, he knows the perfect way Gertie can help make this Hanukkah special.
I loved Sydney Taylor's books as a child, and this fully illustrated picture book is a perfect version. Zelinsky's art is delightful, and the story is well told. I'm excited to add this to my holiday books.
