Zonia lives in the rainforest with her parents and her baby brother. She loves the rainforest and all the animals that live there. It all calls to her every morning and she goes on rounds visiting all her friends. She has a wonderful time, enjoying the vibrant colors, the abundance of plants and animals, colors and textures around her. Things change and Zonia realizes something is wrong and that her beloved home in the rainforest, the rainforest itself, and the plants and animals are threatened. All is not as it should be.
A beautiful story with spectacular illustrations. I loved how the story so well illustrates the life of indigenous people in the Amazon and how their way of life is threatened by outside forces. The back matter includes information on indigenous peoples, plus some facts about the Amazon and a list of threats to the rain forest. This is great to get children aware of the plight of the rainforest, how helpful it is to the whole Earth, and maybe make them think about way that maybe they can help.
