BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3), EL - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
As a boy, Dr. Jonas Salk wanted to study medicine and science so he could help people who were sick. So, he studied hard, went to medical school, and, as an adult, developed the vaccine that kept people from getting Polio.
The author's note at the end has some great extra information about Dr. Salk, and there's also a sidebar about how vaccines work, an informative timeline and resources to find out more. This picture book biography is the perfect length, and would make a great springboard for an older student.
