Jane Goodall tells the story of a baby pangolin who is having a blissful childhood in the care of her mother. But, eventually she matures and her mother sends her off on her own to find a mate. One night, her burrow is discovered by a dog and a poacher captures her, along with other animals from the China forest. What will be the fate of this beautiful endangered mammal?
The illustrations are great, I love that the endpaper looks like pangolin scales. Not a bedtime story for the young - things get dangerous and dicey for our heroine, but this would make a great read aloud in a classroom studying the environment or conservation. Includes great resources for the classroom or for interested students wanting ideas to get involved.
