BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
When Aunt Josephine won't answer the knocking on the door, she tells Sadie why she'd rather rest in bed. It seems that, as a young woman, Aunt J. was cataloging amphibians for a scientist and his team, when, suddenly, the Admiral's son was swallowed by an enormous frog, sending her on a chase around the world - she needs to catalog that frog!
Two picture book greats (Stead and Cordell) have combined talent to produce a terrific story. Matthew Cordell's whimsical illustrations are sensational! And Stead's story . . . Josephine collects everything except the frog and is put into one dangerous (hilarious) situation after another. No wonder she's too tired to get up and see who is at the door! We loved the representation of Canary Island, the pirates and the floating bathtub. I've promised AJ I'll read it to her again, soon.
