BUYING ADVISORY: EL - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

Millie invites her best friend Cora to their cabin in the northwoods for a week during the summer. This week is going to be awesome: swimming, canoeing and exploring the beautiful lake and the islands. They haven't been there long when Millie's yellow lab, Angus disappears. Angus has a medical problem and needs medicine; they need to find him quick. In their search for Angus they discover a mysterious hermit on a small island and that another visitor by the lake wants to buy up all the land and the forests around the lake to build a big resort. Can the girls find Angus and stop the developer?

Up North is a fast and easy read. I was glad to read the second book in the Millie saga. Millie and Cora are brave and adventurous. They even use some magic potions they learned about in the first book. I recommend this book and I think girls from 5 - 8th grade would really enjoy this story. Millie and Cora are pretty mature for their age and put good thoughts into their actions. Millie's parents are great, they trust Millie and let her and Cora keep searching for Angus.
