A wild and wonderful camping trip with a seasoned group of Rough Riders is what Jack and Annie experience in their magical trip back to California in the early 1900s. Jack and Annie find out they are traveling with Theodore Roosevelt--the President of the United States of America!--as well as with John Muir. The two kids are pivotal in helping these adults find a way to preserve the natural beauty of California and other parts of the USA for generations to come.
Book #35 of the Magic Tree House series is exactly what one would expect: Jack and Annie save the future and allow the reader to learn more about history through the adventures Jack and Annie have in each story. Not a bad way to introduce a lot of important events and characters of history, but not a surprising story to read, either.
