3rd grader Lauren loves the dogs she gets to work with at the local animal shelter and wants to do more to help the animals find their forever homes. She and her friends come up with many ideas about how to help and never give up, despite many challenges in their way.

This is the first book in the Invincible Girls Club series. It introduces the four friends and shows the starting point for their service club. It can be read as a stand-alone book, but readers will likely want to continue with the series. A highlight of the book is the way that Lauren uses positive self-talk to face and conquer her fears, as well as the way she finds support in family, friends, and adults in the community. A bonus to this book is the appendix (of sorts) at the end of the book which highlights women in a variety of professions and how they demonstrate their unique talents and abilities as invincible girls. Additionally, there is a list of practicable ways that readers could choose to act and help shelter dogs. These two things are my favorite parts of the book.
