It’s a bright summer day at the park, children playing everywhere, but not everyone is happy. Some of the children are sad, mad, shy, friendly, and more. Each page asks one simple question, are you..? Example: Are you scared? The corresponding illustration shows a boy playing on the bars of a play structure.

Books about feelings are a wonderful teaching tool for both parents and teachers, but this one isn’t my favorite. The illustrations are bright but dated looking and also just a bit off, kind of strange. I could list ten feelings books that are more appealing to young readers.  The page about sad features a dead bird, I wouldn’t want to get stuck explaining that to young children, it would become the focus of the entire read-a-loud.
