Everybody Needs a Buddy by Ellen Jackson. illustrated by Maddie Frost. BOARD BOOK. Simon & Schuster, 2019. $8. 9781534439726
BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Jackson and Frost delight us with this fun and colorful board book
about friendship. “Everybody needs a
buddy, whether clean or green or muddy! Everybody needs a friend, true and
blue, who’s not pretend.” Focusing on all kinds of animal life, Everybody
Needs a Buddy highlights our
inner need for friendship and companionship.
Each page is detailed with amazing illustrations and perfectly rhymed
text. The story ends with two little kids drawing with crayons while lazily lying
on the lawn, both seemingly content and happy with their friendship.
The illustrations and colors in Everybody Needs a Buddy are inviting and
bright The background of each page turn
uses one specific color scheme. Everybody
Needs a Buddy would equally be
great in a unit on friendship or animal life.
We loved this book not only for the illustrations but for the tender
sentiments shared.
