When the three cousins meet at their grandmother’s house for the summer, they are drawn to the decrepit house at the end of the road. Instead of ghosts, however, they find an old man with a great sense of humor and wonderful house to explore. Then one day they go to visit and find their friend has been moved to a nursing home. Is there anything they can do for him?
While I was thoroughly charmed by the story, I don’t see this as a go-to book that kids will reread many times. While they will like it, they just won’t love it.
