BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Tilda has a wonderful life, she likes everything about it, her friends, her toys, her books. One day, however, everything turned upside down and topsy-turvy. She did not want to play with her friends or toys, everything seems so hard and difficult. Finally, Tilda decided to do NOTHING. One day, Tilda sees a ladybug on its back, struggling to get turned back right side up. The ladybug did not give up and eventually flew away, free. Tilda started to do some of the activities she liked, but being with her friends was still too hard. Tilda kept trying and trying, but she decided to not give up.
Percival’s illustrations are so adorable and fun. Readers will be drawn to them on the first page. The meaning of Tilda Tries Again is priceless. For any child that feels life is too hard or that some change has made everything go topsy-turvy, seeing Tilda trying after giving up will show that resilience is worthwhile, kids can cope and there is hope. The author includes a brief note to the reader with encouraging words, advice and a resource for those who find things have turned upside down and nothing is working out right. A must for elementary school libraries, school psychologists, and social workers. The main character is white, but there are multicultural characters in the story.
