A young girl wanted to go a new adventure, she said goodbye to her daddy and left to go on her own adventure. Her daddy knew where she was, but she needed to go on her adventure by herself. She went to a lovely quiet place, filled with flowers, birds and beautiful flowers. On her adventure, she found three feathers, a pretty white flower, a green leaf and a peso. The little girl called out to her father, he must be so lonely without her and she knew he would have loved her adventure, just as she did. The little girl decided she must return, but was mixed up until she saw her footprints in the mud. She ran to her daddy and they decided to go somewhere new together.
Marino’s illustrations in Somewhere are vivid, colorful and bright, depicting an island paradise park somewhere warm and tropical. The text is simple and easy to read for younger readers. The courage of the main character is enticing, encouraging the younger reader to explore somewhere new on their own, but not too far from the security of daddy. Somewhere may not appeal to many children. The characters may be Mexican or of other Latino descent.
