Home is where you can run too, hide in, nap in and feel safe in. It is always the place to go to tell stories or start you are own story. Home is where you have blankets and someone to call you dear or sweetie, you are always welcome there. Home is where the birds sing and wait for you whenever you need it.
Harnett’s illustrations for this simple, yet tender book are detailed and realistic. They work with the text and depict the story completely in a colorful way. The text is short and simple, the story is multicultural, illustrating many different types of individuals and the reason they need home. One feels warm and safe when reading Rylant’s words. A lovely book for preK through kindergarten, however, I question whether children will reach for this book to read again and again. There are multicultral characters.
