BUYING ADVISORY: EL - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Everybody loves David. He has flowers in his hair. He is sweet and gentle just like his flowers. One day all of his flowers lose their petals. All he is left with is his sticks. His best friend makes him some paper ones to replace them so he doesn't feel so self-conscious. Then one day a new flower appears.
This is a story of true friendship and the power of friends taking care of each other. The illustrations are adorable and I can see children checking this book out over and over again. The story is simple and would be a perfect addition for a beginning reader. I like the imaginative concept of flowers growing in someone's hair. The ethnicity is quite diverse. Both genders are represented and there is even a child in a wheelchair in the school class.
