The Gift Inside the Box by Adam Grant - OPTIONAL

The Gift Inside the Box by Adam Grant and Allison Sweet Grant, illustrated by Diana Schoenenbrun, PICTURE BOOK Dial Books for Young Readers, 2019. $19. 9781984815460

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW

When a box drops in from the sky, it goes in search of a recipient, avoiding the child with dirty hands, the dog, and every kid looking for a package for themselves, finally, one child hopes that what is inside the box might be the perfect gift for someone else - turns out, that's who the gift was for - someone who is generous.

I suppose the point is that it is best to think of others first, that was sort of evident by the end - however, the children who hoped the box was for them were excited to get something, but the box acted like the gingerbread man, just running away with no explanation - how disappointing! I thought the box was rude. The layout was unique - the cover folds around like you are opening a box - but it made it a bit ungainly as a read around. All in all, I think I'll pass on this one.
