Gus was the best fisherman in his village and maybe even in the whole world. In order to prove his prowess with the fish, he invites reporters to come catalogue his fishing. When he dumps too much bait in the water, he is tipped into the sea and joins the fish on an adventure that leads to new friendships.
This story is a bit absurd, but in a playful way. There is a bit of a moral tale here about humility and maybe even vegetarianism. I have a soft spot for these hyper-masculine figures drawn in playful picture books (the lumberjack, the fisherman, etc.) as I like when we challenge traditional ways of seeing gender roles.
