Emily wants a dog and is determined to prove to her parents she is responsible enough to handle one. When they take her to the shelter to volunteer they quickly realize that Emily is allergic to animals. Luckily a hypo-allergenic dog is dropped off at the shelter at just the perfect time.
This is a nice, simple story about friendship and art and service. After the story is instructions for making an origami dog, which is a nice touch to the book. Reading level is pretty accessible to very early readers.
