Patience, Miyuki by Roxane Marie Galliez, illustrated by Seng Soun Ratanavanh. PICTURE BOOK. Princeton Architectural Press, 2019. $18. 9781616898434
BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Miyuki is so excited for spring to start that she wants all of the flowers to open. One single bud is not ready to open and Miyuki’s grandpa tries to teach her that some things open in their own time. Miyuki has a hard time being patient, but learns it is worth it.
The illustrations in this book are magical. Miyuki is small sized so all the plants around her look giant, creating an aesthetic wonderland for the reader. Even with the brilliant illustrations, the story drags a bit and requires a bit of patience on the part of the reader - something not always accessible for picture book audiences.
