BUYING ADVISORY: EL - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
The author tells her story in first person about growing up in Iran. A lot of what happens in the novel is just the day to day life in Iran, but there are some intense moments when the extreme changes happening in the country affect the family. Namily, Nioucha is arrested for immodesty and spends a few hours in jail.
This book was hard to read because it jumped from Iran during the revolution, to past memories. The memories highlighted some element of the society they were living, but were often hard to follow. Much of this narrative is simply a coming of age story, with some pieces highlighting Iran’s struggles.
