This lift the
flap book features scenes that are underground. So Montreal’s subway system, a prairie,
an Egyptian Tomb, the burrow of the naked mole rat, a Berber Settlement in
Tunisia, and many more. Under the flaps are interesting facts and information.
The illustrations are harmonious and not too busy.
I think a
second or third grader would have tons of fun lifting the flaps and reading the
facts. The Flaming Cliffs, the Egyptian tomb, and the salt rock mines in Poland
would be of particular appeal. I was surprised to see three subways, which is
kind of repetitive, even if they are different cities. The artwork was stylized
and could have been a real hit if there were little funny things or more interesting
things to look at.
