Kyler accidentally steal his family’s
spaceship. Then pirates try to steal the ship from him! Eventually he meets
Fig. Her family left Earth hundreds of years earlier and have evolved for space
life, mutated. She's on her own and has taken a job to destroy a star. The two
meet up in an unexpected way and are thrown into a much larger adventure than
they expected.
Probably one of my favorite sci-fi
for elementary that I have ever read. The world is completely fleshed out with
lots of side plots personalities and inside jokes. It also has an over arching
plot about politics and discrimination. It's funny, interesting, fun and fast
paced. I would rate it as essential, hands down, except the cover is very
unappealing especially to young readers, who often pick books based on the
cover. It would be worth adding your collection if you thought you could sell
it to your readers but I'm not sure they pick it up on their own.
