In this second book of the series,
politics have led the king of Bavaria to flee. He is on the aethership ship
along with Archibald Dulac, his son Seraphin, a friend named Sophie, and a
friend named Hans. As they head into outer space, they discover a key part to
the ship is missing, and they are forced to crash on the moon. The King thinks
the moon is an almost magical place, and the rest of them don’t believe him.
But as they must explore if they are to be able to take flight again, they
quickly discover things aren’t what they seem on the moon.
The illustrations are gorgeous but
many are super tiny. As a grown up I did not enjoy the plethora of tiny panels
with tiny text, but a young reader might not mind. I thought the story was so
intriguing but somehow it just didn’t grab me. I think there just wasn’t enough
character building to make me feel invested in the outcome. That being said, I
didn’t get to review book one, which is where that may have occurred primarily.
It was a surprisingly dry read, not something I would add to my school library.
